Doris Plankl studied dance, theatre and performance in Vienna, San Francisco and Amsterdam. She began developing her own works in 1992, combining various art forms including music, film, video and the visual arts. In 1989 she cofounded Theater in der Hoffnung, and in 1996 IDEA – Tanz Theater Performance, creating over 35 productions in which she was also involved as a dancer, actress, director and production coordinator. Alongside this between 2004 and 2008 she also worked with the Teatro La ribalta. In 2006 she cofounded the Tanzkooperative Südtirol and has since acted as artistic coordinator of the AlpsMove Festival, taking part in a number of her own productions between 2006 and 2016.
Since 1990 she has directed theatre and dance projects in primary and secondary schools. In 1999 she cofounded Theatraki, working on over 200 pieces with children and young people.
